Haunted by an 11-game postseason road skid dating back to 2018, the Milwaukee Brewers aim to defy history at Petco Park.
It's been eight years since the Milwaukee Brewers have won a playoff game on the road.
That sentence doesn't feel real, but it sure was highlighted last season when they were forced to go five games in the National League Division Series despite getting off to a 2-0 start.
Here in 2026, they'll do whatever it takes to snap an 0-for-11 streak that has stood since Game 3 of the 2018 NLCS.
Milwaukee's road playoff struggles are well documented, but this feels like it could finally be the year where everything changes.
After a heroic hit from Jackson Chourio off star San Diego Padres closer Mason Miller, the Brewers are on top of the world with Dustin May set to take the mound in Game 3.
Brewers' last road playoff win: Oct. 15, 2018
Every true Brewers fan remembers the 2018 NLCS and what it did to this team. That year turned a corner for what this team should expect come the postseason, but that's the last time they were one game away from a World Series appearance.
The team they lost to that season, the Los Angeles Dodgers, is the same club that swept them in the 2025 NLCS.
Not only did the Brewers win one road game in the 2018 playoffs, but they won two as they went to Coors Field and took Game 3 of the NLDS, 6-0.
From there, the Brewers jumped out to a 2-1 series lead against the Dodgers, only to drop the next two games in LA.
Milwaukee salvaged the series in Game 6, but would fall 5-1, at home, to end a historic 2018 campaign.
A closer look at their playoff road struggles
In 2019, Milwaukee went to Nationals Park and dropped the Wild Card game, 4-3.
In 2020, they dropped two games at Dodger Stadium, 4-2 and 3-0.
In 2021, they fell 3-0 and 5-4 at Truist Park.
In 2025, they lost 4-3 and 6-0 at Wrigley Field, along with falling 3-1 and 5-1 at Dodger Stadium.
That doesn't even include home series losses in 2023 and 2024, but that's a story for another time.
This season, all it's going to take is one Brewers win at Petco Park to punch their ticket to a second consecutive Championship Series.
Keep in mind, the Padres swept the Brewers in San Diego during the regular season: 3-2, 11-2, 4-3 (11 innings), though that came during a stretch where it was their second West Coast trip in two weeks.
