The Milwaukee Brewers are going to lose the services of Christian Yelich for some time.
The Milwaukee Brewers were dealt another blow to their roster on Tuesday, placing Christian Yelich on the 10-day Injured List with a left groin strain. The move follows Yelich’s early exit from Sunday’s game, when the injury initially appeared to be related to his hamstring before further evaluation clarified the issue.
Despite the setback, there is cautious optimism that Yelich’s absence will not be overly prolonged, though the team has not provided a firm timeline for his return.
To fill his spot on the roster, Milwaukee selected the contract of Greg Jones from Triple-A Nashville. A former first-round pick, Jones brings elite speed and defensive versatility, with experience across the outfield and infield.
While his track record at the Triple-A level has been uneven, he has shown flashes of offensive ability early this season and could factor into multiple roles as the Brewers look to patch together their lineup.
In a corresponding move, left-hander Rob Zastryzny was transferred to the 60-day Injured List, creating space on the 40-man roster. Zastryzny, who had been recovering from a shoulder issue before suffering an additional setback, is now expected to be sidelined into May.
Yelich’s injury is the latest in a string of setbacks for Milwaukee. He joins Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn on the Injured List, with both players recovering from hand fractures. The pitching staff has also been impacted, including absences like Quinn Priester and Jared Koenig.
With multiple players unavailable, the Brewers are expected to mix and match across the designated hitter spot and outfield. Players such as Gary Sánchez and Luis Rengifo could see increased opportunities, while the club’s outfield depth will be tested as it navigates the coming weeks.
As injuries continue to mount, the Brewers will need contributions from throughout the roster to stay competitive during a challenging stretch of the season.
