The Milwaukee Brewers may look to move Freddy Peralta sooner than later, and it is possible they will engage in talks with a rival.

The Milwaukee Brewers may move on from two-time All-Star ace Freddy Peralta sooner than later, as the 29-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2026 season and will command an asking price that will likely go beyond Milwaukee’s threshold.

As a result, Peralta has been a mainstay of trade rumors since the Brewers exercised his $8 million club option in early November. A lot of teams could pursue Peralta if Milwaukee chooses to trade him before he hits free agency, and one of those teams might be the one who just swept the Brewers in last season’s National League Championship Series.

Recently, Katie Woo of The Athletic wrote about the Los Angeles Dodgers’ potential interest in engaging Peralta.

“The Dodgers remain interested in Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta, a two-time All-Star approaching his final season before free agency,” she wrote. “Peralta is one of the top starters on the trade market after logging a career-best 2.70 ERA over 33 starts for the National League Central champions.”

“Given the injuries that plagued the rotation last year, trading for Peralta is worth exploring.”

The Dodgers saw several pitchers in their rotation spend time on the injured reserve at various points last season, which could provoke the organization to target Peralta. Additionally, the Dodgers may have a piece(s) that could interest the Brewers.

“Controllable starting pitching is always at a premium, and the Dodgers are one of the few organizations with a surplus. The Brewers, should they elect to trade Peralta, are believed to be coveting a major-league-ready replacement in a return, per The Athletic’s Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal. The Dodgers match up well in that regard, especially given the Brewers’ penchant for pitching development.”

With all of this in consideration, Milwaukee holds the cards here. President of baseball operations Matt Arnold and the front office do not have to trade Peralta right now, and certainly not to the team that vanquished them in the NLCS. It is plausible that this all remains hypothetical.

“Now, this is all assuming the Brewers decide to trade Peralta,” Woo added. “Milwaukee holds the leverage here. It does not need to part with its best pitcher, particularly with the Chicago Cubs threatening to overtake the division after signing Alex Bregman.”

“But the Brewers excel at identifying cheap and controllable talent, and the Dodgers match up well as a partner. As long as the Brewers are listening, the Dodgers will engage.”
