After defying career-threatening injuries, Brandon Woodruff’s miraculous return to the mound gives the Milwaukee Brewers a lot to think about.

After throwing 23 live pitches to the Milwaukee Brewers' expected World Series lineup, manager Pat Murphy has a huge decision to make with Brandon Woodruff.

Woodruff has been with this team since 2017. He's one of those guys who eats, sleeps, and breathes Brewers baseball, and that sort of commitment to the team can't be bought.

After starting 27 games in the 2022 season, the 33-year-old has only managed to start 32 in his last four seasons combined.

To say injuries have been an issue would be an understatement, but the Mississippi native has somehow avoided another major surgery and is in a position where he could make the Brewers World Series roster.

MLB.com's Adam McCalvy broke down his latest session from Tuesday, Oct. 20, one that saw him throw 90-92 mph.

Brewers haven't made a decision

It's been a roller-coaster year for the longest-tenured player in the franchise, and many thought his career was in danger after his velocity completely disappeared not once but twice this season.

Woodruff had a lengthy layoff from April 30 to June 22, and then he got hurt once again on July 4 in Arizona.

After going through the necessary steps to determine how severe the injury was, Woodruff miraculously revealed he no longer needed surgery and could start to throw again far sooner than everyone originally expected.

Woodruff wasn't just throwing for fun in that live session; he was facing Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras, Christian Yelich, and Jake Bauers.

That right there shows how far he's come in such a short amount of time, and from this point moving forward, it's in the hands of Murphy and Co. to determine what's best for the team.

Two pitchers on the chopping block

Shane Drohan overcame a three-week layoff to serve as the opener in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.

Chad Patrick has gotten loose a few times, but he's yet to appear in a playoff game.

Kyle Harrison hasn't even warmed up, so his name is undoubtedly on the chopping block, should Woodruff bounce back from this live session and be in good shape.

To say it would be a fairy tale to have Woodruff on the World Series roster would be an understatement, but the team knows they can't just hand out a roster spot.

Woodruff has proven he's capable, no doubt, but this is set to be one of the biggest decisions of the team's life, as one wrong move at this stage in the season could change everything.
