The Milwaukee Brewers will have a rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, and they need Jacob Misiorowski to be at his best.
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Dodgers set the stage for a National League Championship Series rematch after both teams won their respective National League Division Series in Game 4 on Wednesday.
The rematch is a chance for the Brewers to get back at the Dodgers, who swept them in last season's NLCS. It was a year in which Milwaukee also finished with the best record in baseball, but it could not stand up against Los Angeles.
This season, the Brewers are a stronger team than they were before, and the Dodgers don't seem to be the juggernaut that they were in seasons past. Still, Milwaukee's best players are going to have to be at the top of their game to book a trip to the World Series, and that starts with Jacob Misiorowski.
What version of Misiorowski will the Brewers get?
Misiorowski kicked off the Brewers' postseason with a Game 1 start against the San Diego Padres, and while he was solid, he was not at his best.
Misiorowski pitched four innings and struck out six batters while allowing four hits, two earned runs and a walk. Given what we have seen from Misiorowski all season long, that outing fell more on the side of average by his standards.
Milwaukee narrowly escaped Game 1 with a 3-2 win, and after winning the series, Misiorowski has another chance to be the dominant pitcher he has been all season long. The question is, will he seize the moment?
The NLCS begins on Sunday, and while a starter has not been announced for either team, it is safe to assume that Misiorowski will be taking the mound after a week of rest. It is also safe to assume that Dodgers ace Tarik Skubal will be his opponent.
The good news for Misiorowski is that the Dodgers struggled mightily at the plate in the NLDS. In Los Angeles' clinching win over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, its batting order went just 5-for-32 at the plate.
Misiorowski was decent in his lone start against the Dodgers during the regular season, in which he struck out six batters and allowed five hits, one earned run and one walk through six innings of work in a winning effort. Still, given what Misiorowski has accomplished this season, it is no secret that he is capable of so much more.
The Brewers' 24-year-old ace has an excellent opportunity in front of him to dominate the defending World Series champions, who have looked like a shell of themselves in the batter's box. Milwaukee could use a great game from Misiorowski, and it is up to him to deliver.
