A former St. Louis Cardinals pitcher, Carlos Martinez, officially announced his retirement from baseball Sunday.

Martinez pitched for the Cardinals for nine seasons from 2013-21. In 2022, after brief stints with the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox organizations, he faced two separate suspensions due to performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) and a violation of MLB's domestic violence policy.

Martinez pitched professionally in Mexico in 2024 and 2025.
