In this past year's Rule 5 draft during MLB winter meetings, the New York Yankees selected right-handed pitcher Cade Winquest from the St. Louis Cardinals.

On Monday, the Yankees returned Winquest back to the Cardinals.

A criteria of the Rule 5 draft is that the player selected has to be on the 26-man roster for most of the season. New York designated Winquest for assignment on April 10. No players claimed him and added them to the 26-man roster, leading to his return to St. Louis.
