The Cardinals will induct Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina and the late Bill Sherdell into their Hall of Fame in a special Busch Stadium ceremony on Sept. 12. The club will also celebrate the 20-year anniversary of the 2006 World Series championship team on Friday, Sept. 11.
Cardinals’ fans of a certain age are going to have a weekend they can truly savor on Sept. 11 and 12th when the 11-time champion organization celebrates the 20-year anniversary of the 2006 team that won the World Series next Friday and franchise cornerstones Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina are inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame a day later.
Because of the popularity and success of Pujols and Molina, the Cardinals’ Hall of Fame event has been moved from Ballpark Village to inside Busch Stadium where a sellout crowd is expected for the festivities. Pujols, Molina and the late Bill Sherdell will be enshrined inside Busch Stadium in a 5 p.m. CT ceremony before the Cardinals face the White Sox in Game 2 of their three-game series at 6:15 p.m. CT.
Cardinals Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith, Tony La Russa, Ted Simmons, Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds, Chris Carpenter, Mark McGwire, Ray Lankford, Jason Isringhausen, John Tudor, José Oquendo, Matt Morris, Édgar Rentería, and Al Hrabosky are scheduled to take part in the Hall of Fame ceremonies.
A Cardinals-White Sox game ticket is required to attend the Hall of Fame ceremony. Busch Stadium gates at 3:15 p.m. CT – an hour earlier than normal for Saturday night games – to ensure fans are in their seats for the start of the ceremony at 5:00 p.m. CT. The Cards-White Sox game and the Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be televised for free on Cardinals.TV. Pujols, now 46 years old, won three MVP awards, went to 10 All-Star Games and became just the fourth players in MLB history to hit 700 home runs while in a Cardinals jersey from 2001-11 and 2022. In 12 seasons with the Cardinals, Pujols hit .326 with a 1.031 OPS with 469 homers and 1,397 RBI.
Molina, now 44 and a special advisor for the club, played all 19 seasons in St. Louis and was a 10-time All-Star and a nine-time Gold Glove winner in a Cardinals uniform. He was a career .277 hitter with 176 homers and 1,022 RBI, and he led MLB in caught-stealing percentage four times and holds a 40.3 percent caught-stealing rate for his career – well above the 2026 MLB average of 29 percent.
Sherdell, who died in 1968 at the age of 72, went 153-131 in 14 seasons with the Cardinals. He was a part of the 1926 Cardinals squad that beat the Yankees in seven games to win the World Series.
Pujols and Molina were integral parts of the 2006 Cardinals squad that weathered a season full of injuries, snuck in the playoffs at 83-78 and beat the Padres and Mets to get to the World Series, Despite being heavy underdogs to the Tigers, the Cardinals rolled to the franchise’s 10th World Series crown by routing Detroitn 4-1 in the Series.
More than 30 former players and coaches from the 2006 team, including National Baseball Hall of Famers Tony La Russa and Scott Rolen, Cardinals Hall of Famers Chris Carpenter, Jim Edmonds, Jason Isringhausen, José Oquendo, Pujols and Molina and World Series MVP David Eckstein and NLCS MVP Jeff Suppan are scheduled to take part in the pregame motorcade around the Busch Stadium warning track on Friday, Sept. 11. The ceremony will begin at 6:35 p.m. CT before that night’s 7:15 p.m. CT game between the Cardinals and White Sox.
