Switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje, the No. 4-ranked prospect in the Cardinals’ Minor League system, is being promoted to Triple-A Memphis following two of his best Double-A outings of the season, per a report by MiLB Central.
The Cardinals have yet to officially announce a promotion for Cijntje, a native of the Netherlands, who attended high school in South Florida and Mississippi State University prior to being the No. 15 pick of the 2024 MLB Draft by Seattle.
Triple-A Memphis is off the MLB All-Star Game and doesn’t return to action until Friday when it hosts the Iowa Cubs.
Cijntje, who was acquired from the Mariners in a trade centered around All-Star infielder Brendan Donovan last February, has gone 3-4 with a 5.04 ERA in 17 starts with Double-A Springfield this season. In 80 innings of work, he struck out 100 and walked 40, while also surrendering 14 homers in the hitter-friendly Texas League.
Cijntje has faced 21 lefties as a southpaw
Cijntje, 23, has mostly pitched right-handed this season, but he has faced 22 hitters – one right-hander and 21 lefties – as a left-handed pitcher. He walked the one right-handed batter he faced, and he has limited lefties to 3 for 13 hitting with six walks and five strikeouts as a southpaw.
Cijntje mostly struggled in June, going 0-2 with a 6.65 ERA over his five starts. However, he has rounded nicely in July (a 1.50 ERA in two starts). He threw six shutout innings against Arkansas on July 4 while allowing just three hits and three walks and striking out nine. Six days later, he held Tulsa to four hits and two earned runs over six innings with eight strikeouts and one walk.
The Cardinals promoted Springfield left-hander Mason Molina to Triple-A Memphis on June 30. Molina, who was acquired from the Texas Rangers last July in a trade for reliever Phil Maton, was named the Cardinals’ Minor League Pitcher of the Month for June after going 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA over five starts.
Cijntje, who has allowed six homers to lefties and eight to righties this season, has done some of his best work in the tightest spots. He had held the opposition to .190 hitting while racking up 33 strikeouts with runners in scoring position in 2026.
