Miles Mikolas just signed a deal with the Washington Nationals.

Earlier this week, former St. Louis Cardinals hurler Miles Mikolas signed a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals, a team hoping to come out of a rebuild.

After signing, he joined the 'Foul Territory TV' program to talk about that - and the Cardinals - who are just starting their rebuild. The team has traded veterans Ryan Helsley, Nolan Arenado, Brendan Donovan, Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras since the 2025 trade deadline and let Mikolas walk in free agency.

"...sometimes you have to wipe the board clean before you can...you have to grab a new sheet of paper before you can paint that next masterpiece. And, you know, they got a new front office and they're going forward with that. And I'm sure that's a really good, smart group of guys there. They're going to make the moves that obviously that they think are best, and it's definitely different.

...At some point you have to roll over. I mean, you had guys there for 10, 15, 20 years, that have been part of that system and understandably, they want to go in a different direction because we hadn't played good. We caught some bad breaks the last couple seasons. We'd lost some guys, guys had some down years. I'm going to regret forever not pitching better my last couple of years in a Cardinals uniform. But that's the way baseball is..."

About Mikolas

Now 37 years old, Mikolas has spent parts of a decade in the major leagues, including seven with the Cardinals. A two-time All-Star, his career is a testament to perseverance. After debuting in 2012, he spent 2015-17 in Japan before coming back with the Cardinals in 2018. He's a two-time All-Star who went 68-69 for St. Louis with a 4.16 ERA. He won a career-high 18 games in 2018, also posting a 2.83 ERA.

He'll look to help stabilize the Washington rotation in the wake of trading MacKenzie Gore this offseason.
