The St. Louis Cardinals had two players up for a Gold Glove Award, with the winners announced Sunday night by Major League Baseball.

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn is a 2025 Gold Glove Award winner.

He was one of three players at his position in the National League named a finalist for the honor, joined by Nick Allen of the Atlanta Braves and Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Winn, who made his Major League Baseball debut with the Cardinals on Aug. 18, 2023, is the fourth St. Louis shortstop to win a Gold Glove. The others? Edgar Renteria (2002 and ’03), Baseball Hall of Fame member Ozzie Smith (1982-92) and Dal Maxvill (1968).

MLB.com, citing data from the Elias Sports Bureau, reported Wynn is the youngest Cardinals player to earn a Gold Glove. On the final day of the regular season, he was 23 years, 191 days old. He is also the fifth-youngest shortstop to take home a Gold Glove.

It is his first Gold Glove Award and the 100th all-time for the Cardinals franchise, per John Denton of MLB.com.

Cardinals center fielder Victor Scott II was nominated at the position alongside Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Chicago Cubs and Jacob Young of the Washington Nationals. The award went to Crow-Armstrong on Sunday.

    About Masyn Winn

The Cardinals selected Winn in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft out of Kingwood (Texas) High School.

He is known to have one of the top infield arms in baseball. In 2025, he appeared in 129 games – all at short – and led major league shortstops in fielding percentage at .994. He made just three errors and helped turn 64 double plays.

At the plate in the recently completed season, Winn batted .253 with nine homers and 51 RBIs.

Winn had this to say about the award to ESPN, which aired the unveiling of the Gold Glove recipients:

"Coming up through the minors, that's what I was known for – my defense – and I want to be a master of it. Winning this Gold Glove is huge. It's one of the goals I wanted at the beginning of the year and it's great to accomplish it."

    About the Gold Glove Award

The best defensive player at each position in each league has been recognized with a Gold Glove since 1957. A utility player category was established in 2023. MLB managers and coaches vote for the winners, which accounts for 75% of the total votes. They can vote for players only in their league and can’t pick someone from their own team.
