With the end of the 2025 minor-league season, MLB.com took the opportunity to review the performance of prospects and refresh its MLB Pipeline Top 100 rankings.

Four St. Louis Cardinals prospects ranked in that group on the list, released Wednesday.

At the top is JJ Wetherholt, a 23-year-old infielder who had a spectacular season in 2025, and is ranked as the No. 5 prospect in baseball – up a spot from the last time the MLB Pipeline released its list.

After Wetherholt is left-hander Liam Doyle, ranked No. 36, and a pair of catchers – No. 55 Rainiel Rodriguez and No. 92 Leonardo Bernal.

Wetherholt split the 2025 season between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis.

He batted .314 at Memphis and .300 at Springfield and had a cumulative slash line of .306/.421/.510/.931. He tallied 123 hits, including 28 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs and 59 RBIs.

He earned Player of the Year honors in the Texas League.

The Cardinals selected Wetherholt, who played collegiately at West Virginia, with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. With less than two seasons in the minors, he looks major-league ready.

Doyle, 21, got a tiny taste of pro ball after the Cardinals selected him No. 5 overall in the 2025 draft out of college at Tennessee.

In his final college season, Doyle was 10-4 with a 3.20 ERA and a save, appearing in 19 games (17 starts). He struck out 164 batters in 95.2 innings.

In the Cardinals' system, he started one game at Single-A Palm Beach and one at Double-A Springfield. He allowed one earned run in 3.2 total innings and struck out six batters.

The Catching Situation

But who will catch those pitches from Doyle one day in St. Louis? Two Top 100 catchers is a rarity.

But that is what the Cardinals have with Rodriguez and Bernal. Just 18, Rodriguez rose from his No. 93 ranking earlier this season to No. 55, climbing 38 spots on the list – the biggest gain in the updated MLB Pipeline list.

The Cardinals signed Rodriguez for $300,000 out of the Dominican Republic in April 2024. He had an All-Star season that year in the Dominican Summer League before coming to the United States in 2025.

He started at the Florida Complex League, then earned promotions to Palm Beach and High-A Peoria.

He finished the season with a .276 average, a slash line of .399/.555/.954, 20 home runs and 63 RBIs.

While MLB.com said his defense hasn’t caught up yet with his offense, the same can’t be said for Bernal, who dropped 23 spots from No. 69 in the prior rankings.

He had a 39.1% caught-stealing rate, but he hit 247 in 107 games at Springfield. He hit 13 home runs and drove in 70.

At 21, he already has spent four seasons in the minor leagues.
