The Cardinals have re-assigned a group of top prospects, including Jurrangelo Cijtnje, to minor league camp.

The St. Louis Cardinals made several notable, and predictable, roster moves on Monday, re-assigning a group of prospects to minor league spring training.

Within that group are top prospects Jurrangelo Cijntje and Ixan Henderson. Joining them are LHP Pete Hansen, RHP Sem Robberse, LHP Jared Shuster, LHP Zack Thompson, RHP Austin Love, C Graysen Tarlow, RHP Hancel Rincon and OF Mike Antico.

The spring training roster is down to 57 players with just 24 days to go until the MLB Opener on March 26.

With just over three weeks to go until Opening Day, here's what you need to know:

About Cijtnje

Cijntje was ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization and checked in at No. 91 overall in the latest MLB Pipeline rankings when the Cardinals acquired him in the offseason trade for Brendan Donovan. It should be noted that he was not in the Top 100 for Baseball America this winter, so there are some differing opinions. The MLB Pipeline Top 30 rankings for the Cardinals are released on Tuesday and he's expected to be in the top seven there as well.

A first-round pick of the Mariners in 2024 out of Mississippi State, he reached as high as Double-A in 2025, making seven appearances for the Arkansas Travelers. Now 22, he's famously a "switch-pitcher," and the Cardinals continue to list him as such, but it's likely that he will work primarily as a right-hander, where he is better.

He went 5-7 with a 3.99 ERA, striking out 120 batters in 108.1 innings at High-A and Double-A.

Even though he was sent down on Monday, he is still a realistic rotation option at some point in 2026. He threw two scoreless innings in the Grapefruit League with two strikeouts.

About Henderson

Ranked as the No. 19 prospect in the organization at the end of 2025 by MLB Pipeline, Henderson is 24 and projected to make the major leagues this season. The lefty was an eighth-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Fresno State.

He spent 2025 at Double-A Springfield, going 9-7 with a 2.59 ERA in 25 starts. He fanned 134 batters in 132.0 innings.

RHP Tekoah Roby was also sent to Triple-A. He also ended the 2025 campaign within the team's Top 30.

--The Cardinals extended manager Oliver Marmol on Sunday, giving him a two-year deal with an option for a third year. He's now under contract through 2028 with the option for 2029. Here are the reasons why St. Louis might have done it despite not making the playoffs for each of the last three years.
