Despite being non-tendered last week, Yohel Pozo is going to be back with the organization in 2026.

According to a new report from Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Cardinals are bringing back catcher Yohel Pozo just days after non-tendering him.

Terms of the deal are not known at this time and his role likely won't become clear until closer to Opening Day as the Cardinals work to shuffle their roster this offseason.

#stlcards are finalizing a deal with catcher Yohel Pozo to re-sign back with organization, per source. Backup catcher gives #Cardinals depth. And, worth noting, he won the Darryl Kile award as voted on by his teammates this season. More info coming:

    About Pozo:

The 28-year-old Venezuela native made his major league debut in 2021 with the Texas Rangers and then resurfaced with the Cardinals this season, playing 67 games. He hit five home runs and drove in 19 while hitting .231 and posting a 78 OPS+.

He's one of four catchers on the 40-man roster, along with Ivan Herrera, Jimmy Crooks, and Leonardo Bernal. Willson Contreras, who doesn't catch much anymore, is still on the roster and can catch if needed. Bernal is one of the top prospects in baseball.

    About the Cardinals this offseason

As stated above, the Cardinals are in a state of turmoil this offseason. They are expected to trade Nolan Arenado and Sonny Gray, and they could move Alec Burleson, Brendan Donovan and Lars Nootbaar. There's also a chance that Contreras could get dealt.

St. Louis is coming off a fourth-place finish in the National League Central and is under new front office leadership with Chaim Bloom taking over. He previously served as the Chief Baseball Officer of the Boston Red Sox.

    About the Darryl Kile Award:

    Per Baseball Almanac:

Since its inception, the Darryl Kile Award has been presented during the BBWAA’s annual Baseball Writers' Dinner, serving as a poignant reminder of Kile’s influence both on and off the field. Over the years, the honor has been bestowed upon a distinguished list of players who have upheld the values Kile represented, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire future generations of athletes

Kile spent 12 years in the major leagues with the Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies and Cardinals, including two with St. Louis. He was a three-time All-Star who went 133-119 overall.
