Thus far this offseason, the St. Louis Cardinals have done a lot of subtracting from their major league roster. They've traded away Sonny Gray, Willson Contreras, Nolan Arenado and Brendan Donovan this offseason, however, with a week to go until spring training, the group is apparently looking to make another addition.
As we've heard, the Cardinals are looking for another right-handed hitting outfielder, even after Austin Hays signed with the Chicago White Sox recently.
The following came from The Athletic on Tuesday night:
Over the last few weeks, the Cardinals have been looking to add a right-handed outfielder, though one of their targets, Austin Hays, signed with the White Sox over the weekend. Miguel Andujar and former Cardinal Randal Grichuk remain on the market, but Bloom could also swing a smaller trade. Any addition, whether through trade or free agency, will likely be on a one- or two-year deal.
We talked about some of the options for the Cardinals in this department two days ago, but they bear repeating. Grichuk, Andujar, Starling Marte, Tommy Pham, Hunter Renfroe and Austin Slater.
About to turn 31 years old, Andujar is a nine-year veteran of the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. He burst onto the scene with the 2018 Yankees, hitting 27 homers and driving in 92, but then injuries rattled him for the next several years. He played 75 games for the 2024 Athletics before hitting .318 in 94 games for the 2025 A's and the Reds. He had 10 home runs, 44 RBIs and a .352 on-base percentage.
He made 32 appearances at third base, 32 in the outfield, 28 at DH and a handful at first base. He hit .389 against lefties in 93 plate appearances. He can help serve as protection in case Jordan Walker fails to develop and he can also provide flexibility in both the outfield and the infield.
Now 37 years old, Marte is a 14-year veteran of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Miami Marlins, Athletics and New York Mets. A two-time All-Star, he has 163 home runs and 361 stolen bases. He is the active MLB leader in steals and triples (55).
Last season, he hit .270 in 98 games for New York with nine home runs.
About to turn 38, Pham is a 12-year veteran who has spent parts of six years with the Cardinals. A career .256 hitter, he has 149 home runs and 131 stolen bases. He has eight seasons of double-digit home runs, including 10 for the Pirates in 2025.
Now 34 years old, Grichuk is a 12-year veteran who spent the first four years of his career with the Cardinals. A career .251 hitter, he hit .228 for the Diamondbacks and Royals a season ago. He has 10 seasons of double-digit home runs, including 31 for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019.
A nine-year veteran of the Giants, Reds, Orioles, White Sox and Yankees, Slater is a .248 career hitter who hit .216 a season ago. He has 45 career home runs and has hit .267 against lefties in his career.
Now 34 years old, Renfroe is a 10-year veteran who has 192 career home runs. He hit 15 home runs for the 2024 Royals but hit just .182 in 35 games before being let go in 2025. Lifetime, he's a .236 career hitter.
