Pete Crow-Armstrong flashed the leather and hit a long ball in his first week with the Cubs' top minor-league affiliate.
Chicago Cubs top prospect Peter Crow-Armstrong had a great opening week at Triple-A Iowa.
The Cubs called Crow-Armstrong up from Double-A Tennessee on Tuesday and he made his debut that night. He played five games for the Cubs last week, all against Toledo.
Here’s a rundown of the Cubs’ No. 1 prospect’s first week with the Iowa Cubs
Tuesday: Crow-Armstrong struggled at the plate in his first Triple-A game, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts. He did draw a walk and stole a base while starting in center field. The Cubs lost, 8-2.
Thursday: After an off-day, Crow-Armstrong struggled again, going 0-for-3. He cut down on the strikeouts, fanning just once. He was also hit by a pitch.
But, he’s considered one of the best fielding prospects in the game, and Iowa Cubs fans got a taste of that in this game, with a great catch at the wall on a deep fly ball.
Toledo won the game, though, 9-8.
Friday: After two games of struggling at the plate, Crow-Armstrong got his first Triple-A hit. It also happened to be his first Triple-A home run.
Crow-Armstrong ended up going 1-for-4 with an RBI. He also struck out once. The Cubs won, 3-1.
Saturday: Crow-Armstrong had six total plate appearances in the Cubs’ 19-8 loss to Toledo. He went 1-for-6, striking out twice.
Sunday: Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the Cubs’ 6-4, 10-inning loss to Toledo. He doubled, walked once and struck out once.
For the week, Crow-Armstrong batted .125 with a home run and an RBI.
The former first-round pick of the New York Mets had spent his 2023 season minor-league baseball with Double-A Tennessee. With the Smokies, he slashed .289/.371/.527/.898 with 14 home runs and 60 RBI.
The former first-round pick of the New York Mets in 2020 out of Harvard-Westlake in Los Angeles joined the Cubs at the 2021 trade deadline when they sent shortstop Javier Baez, right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams and cash to the Mets for his rights.
