Most baseball fans weren’t rooting for the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers have a whopping $549 million payroll and luxury tax total for the 2025 season and easily have the best team in baseball.
A rotation consisting of Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani is just unfair for any team having to face those four pitchers in a five or seven-game series. Then, add in the fact that Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freddie Freeman are probably the best top-three hitters in any lineup in the league.
So, it’s safe to say that no one (outside of Dodgers fans) was rooting for the Dodgers to beat the Brewers in the NLCS. That is, if you also weren't a Cubs fan.
Most Cubs fans wanted to see the Brewers lose to the Dodgers in the NLCS, given the way Milwaukee acted once beating its division rival in Game 5 of the National League Division Series.
Abner Uribe did a phone celebration and looked right at the Cubs dugout once closing out that decisive Game 5, and William Contreras went on Instagram live following that win and said, “Theeeee Cubs lose!”
Worst of all, the Brewers held up an "L" flag in their celebratory picture after winning the NLDS -- mocking the Cubs and their fans who hold up "W" flags whenever the team wins. Well, that seemed to have backfired.
Milwaukee got swept by the Dodgers in the NLCS, and fans around the league are calling this the curse of the "L" flag. The Brewers might have jinxed themselves by holding up that flag after beating the Cubs one round earlier.
With the Brewers now officially eliminated from the postseason, Cubs fans can now sit back and root against the Dodgers once again. Los Angeles is seeking its second straight title and will play the Seattle Mariners or Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series.
It would have been interesting to see how the Cubs would have fared against the Dodgers in the NLCS. They likely would have given Los Angeles a better fight than the Brewers did in this round, but it would have been tough to beat them four times.
The Dodgers just have more talent than both teams, and it’s not shocking to see them fighting for another World Series title. However, Cubs fans have to be happy that Los Angeles took care of business against the Brewers, especially after their mockery.
