Jefferson Rojas rockets into Baseball America's top 100. Discover his impressive climb and the Cubs' infield logjam impacting his MLB timeline.

Baseball America has recently updated its top 100 prospects.

With prospects like Nolan McLean and Samuel Basallo officially graduating, Baseball America’s updated prospect rankings look a bit different. Even though we are only one week into the new season, there was some notable movement on this list.

The biggest movement for the Chicago Cubs is that infielder Jefferson Rojas now finds himself as a top 100 prospect. Rojas was unranked by Baseball America in its first edition of the year, but he comes in as the No. 94 prospect in the latest update.

This is the first time that Rojas has been ranked as a top 100 prospect by Baseball America. He was listed as the No. 97 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline before the start of the 2025 season, but has since dropped out of the top 100 on that list.

Rojas becomes the third Cubs prospect to be ranked inside the top 100 on Baseball America. He joins both Moises Ballesteros and Jaxon Wiggins on this prospect list.

The 20-year-old is absolutely deserving of this top 100 prospect status. He has quickly climbed up the Minor League ranks and continues to showcase his potential at every level.

In 2025, Rojas put together solid all-around numbers. He batted a combined .236 with 11 home runs, 19 doubles, 59 RBI, and 19 stolen bases across 106 games at High-A and Double-A. Those 11 home runs were a personal-best, and he also drew a career-high 58 walks.

Rojas then made a strong impact this spring. He slashed .250/.294/583 with four home runs, four doubles, and 11 RBI across 19 Spring Training games. The highlight of his spring came when he launched a grand slam back on March 18.

Rojas has the tools to be a really good Major League player one day. He is a solid contact hitter, has the speed to steal upward of 20 bases a season, and has a strong arm at shortstop. Those skillsets are why the 20-year-old is a top 100 prospect on Baseball America.

The problem, though, is that it might be a while until Rojas actually makes his MLB debut. He is starting the 2026 season at Double-A, and there is simply nowhere for him to play in the future. Alex Bregman, Dansby Swanson, and Nico Hoerner are all signed through the 2029 season.

That obviously does not bode well for Rojas’ chances of being called up any time soon. But he is still extremely young (20) and will continue to develop at the Minor League level.
