Cubs' pitching prospect Jaxon Wiggins dazzles in Triple-A debut, showcasing elite stuff and hinting at a summer big-league call-up.

There is one prospect that all Chicago Cubs fans should be watching closely this year. He showed his potential throughout the 2025 Minor League season and is expected to be called up to the big leagues sometime this summer.

That prospect is Jaxon Wiggins. The 24-year-old enters the year looking to make his Major League debut sometime in 2026. He is currently MLB Pipeline’s No. 58 overall prospect and is soon to be the Cubs’ top prospect once Moises Ballesteros graduates.

There is currently no timeline for when Wiggins will be called up. There’s a chance that he won’t make his MLB debut until later this summer. However, getting off to a strong start in Triple-A is definitely important for the hard-throwing right-hander.

Wiggins made his season debut on Sunday against Triple-A Columbus and looked solid in his first Minor League start of the year. He threw four innings of one-run ball with two hits and two walks with six strikeouts.

The Cubs' top pitching prospect made quick work in his first two innings before surrendering a two-out double that led to a run in the top of the third inning. Wiggins then came back for the fourth inning and struck out the side in his final frame of work.

This was a solid first start for the young pitcher. He was poised on the mound, showed decent command across his four innings, and his swing-and-miss stuff was there. Wiggins only allowed four batters to reach base in this contest.

Seeing positive results from Wiggins at Triple-A early in the season is a nice sign, considering he struggled in his time with the Iowa Cubs last year. The right-hander had a 4.66 ERA, a 1.55 WHIP, and 14 strikeouts across three Triple-A starts in 2025.

Despite those poor numbers, the potential was always there for Wiggins to excel at his level. In those three Triple-A starts last year, the 24-year-old had an impressive 37.3% whiff rate, a 17.1% swinging strike rate, and a .190 expected batting average against.

So, it’s fair to assume that Wiggins will put up solid numbers on the mound in his time at Triple-A. He has a mean fastball that sits in the upper 90s and has a plus slider that works well as a secondary pitch.

Wiggins is going to make an impact with the Cubs sometime this season. It might not be until later in the year, but his arm is going to be a game-changer for a team that has World Series aspirations.
