The Cubs outfielder is shattering old records, joining legends while surpassing Shohei Ohtani in WAR to cement his status as the National League’s MVP frontrunner.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong has made more history.

This is the second time in a month that Crow-Armstrong has joined an exclusive company.

At the start of July, it was revealed that Crow-Armstrong posted numbers in June that hadn’t been done in decades. He joined Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig as the only players in MLB history to have a .375+ batting average, .775+ slugging percentage, 80+ total bases, 15+ walks, 10+ home runs, and 5+ stolen bases (according to OptaSTATS).

Ruth put up those numbers in June of 1920, July of 1920, and May of 1930. Gehrig posted those elite numbers in June of 1930. Crow-Armstrong is now added to that group, and is the first player to reach those thresholds in a month in 96 years.

Crow-Armstrong has also joined another exclusive group, becoming the first player since the 1970s to hit 22 home runs, five triples, and steal 25 bases before August (OptaSTATS). He joins Davey Lopes (1979) and Ken Williams (1922) as the only three players in MLB history to accomplish these numbers prior to August 1.

Crow-Armstrong officially joined this group after his big home run in Friday’s win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cubs outfielder launched a 409-foot solo home run in the sixth inning to give him 22 long balls on the year.

It has been a miraculous season for the Cubs superstar. He is currently slashing .285/.385/.527 with 22 home runs, 17 doubles, five triples, 56 RBI, and 25 stolen bases across 103 games while continuing to play elite defense in center field.

The two-time All-Star currently ranks first in Fielding Run Value (21), first in Outs Above Average (20), first in Runs Prevented (18), and first in five-star catches (8) among all defenders in baseball. He even has the most four-star catches (10) at this point.

There’s no denying how important Crow-Armstrong has been to this team this year. He is a large reason why Chicago sits 13 games above .500 (58-45) and is currently in the top Wild Card spot in the National League. His MVP-caliber numbers have carried the Cubs over the last few months.

Crow-Armstrong’s 6.2 WAR on ESPN and 6.6 WAR on Fangraphs are both the best in baseball. He has officially overtaken Shohei Ohtani for the highest WAR in baseball on both sites. His 5 offensive WAR on ESPN trails only Yordan Alvarez (5.3) as well.

Crow-Armstrong should firmly be in the MVP race down the stretch.
