Cubs secure star outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong for six years and $115 million. Discover the full breakdown, including impressive MVP incentives.

The Chicago Cubs locked up one of their up-and-coming stars earlier this week.

After failing to get an extension done last offseason, the Cubs and Pete Crow-Armstrong agreed to a big extension on Monday evening. He is expected to stay in Chicago for the foreseeable future, and the North Siders have locked down one of the top center fielders in the game.

The full details of the deal weren’t originally announced, but we now know how much Crow-Armstrong’s extension is worth. The 24-year-old agreed to a six-year, $115 million extension with the Cubs.

The full breakdown of the deal was also announced on Wednesday morning. Crow-Armstrong will make $10 million in each of the next three years (2027-2029), $20 million in 2030, and $30 million in both 2031 and 2032.

His new contract extension will feature bonuses as well. He can earn $2 million for each MVP won, $1 million for a second or third place MVP finish, $750,000 for a fourth or fifth place finish, and $500,000 for a sixth through 10th place MVP finish. If the Cubs decide to trade him, a $1 million payout will be given to Crow-Armstrong.

Crow-Armstrong is coming off a breakthrough campaign in which he hit .247 with 31 home runs, 37 doubles, 95 RBI, and 35 stolen bases across 157 games. He was a 6.0 WAR player last year and finished ninth in the National League MVP voting.

While the 24-year-old had some offensive struggles in the second half, it’s hard to ignore his impact in the outfield. Crow-Armstrong ranked tied for first in outs above average, first in runs prevented, and first in five-star catches among all defenders in 2025.

There’s no doubt that Crow-Armstrong is a rising star in the league after getting MVP votes and making his first All-Star appearance last year. So, extending him before the 2026 season was likely high on the front office's offseason agenda.

This new deal will begin during the 2027 season and will run through the 2032 season. That means Crow-Armstrong will not be a free agent until after the 2032 campaign at the age of 30.

Overall, this extension is a very team-friendly one for the Cubs. They are only paying him $30 million total from 2027 to 2029. For a player who could consistently get MVP votes, those numbers could be a bargain for the North Siders.

The Cubs getting ahead of this Crow-Armstrong extension is a job well done by the front office.
