From cornerstone sluggers like Ian Happ to breakout trade deadline acquisitions, discover which North Side bats are hitting the open market and facing potentially massive paydays elsewhere.

The Chicago Cubs have a long list of free agents this offseason.

While most of their free agents happen to come on the pitching side, the Cubs are set to lose some quality hitters as well. They have six hitters set to hit the open market this winter, and some of those hitters could get a nice payday elsewhere.

Here’s an updated look at all six Cubs hitters who are officially free agents this offseason.

Ian Happ

Ian Happ has spent his entire career with the Cubs. He was selected ninth overall in the 2015 MLB Draft and has played all 10 of his Major League seasons in Chicago. However, Happ will be a free agent this offseason.

He posted some of the worst-hitting numbers of his career this past season, slashing .218/.326/.412 with 24 home runs, 28 doubles, and 68 RBI across 156 games.

Seiya Suzuki

Seiya Suzuki is one of the top players in this year’s free agent cycle. Suzuki slashed .245/.326/.478 with 32 home runs and 103 RBI in 151 games in 2025 and slashed .270/.368/.473 with 26 home runs and 86 RBI in 143 games this past season.

Although the Cubs did extend the qualifying offer to Suzuki to try to keep him away from free agency, it would be quite a surprise if the Japanese slugger accepted it.

Carson Kelly

Carson Kelly is officially a free agent after declining his $7.5 million mutual option for the 2027 season. Kelly was a reliable catcher behind the plate in both seasons with the Cubs and will now be a top free agent at the position this offseason.

Kelly slashed a combined .254/.335/.402 with 27 home runs, 28 doubles, and 108 RBI over the past two seasons.

Tyler Austin

The Cubs signed Tyler Austin to back up Michael Busch at first base throughout the 2026 season. However, Austin didn’t appear in any games for Chicago after undergoing knee surgery before the regular season.

Michael Conforto

Michael Conforto was a nice bat off the bench for the Cubs this past season. He slashed .240/.331/.469 with 15 home runs, 17 doubles, and 45 RBI across 113 games. Conforto could be looking to find a starting spot this winter.

Tyrone Taylor

The Cubs picked up Tyrone Taylor at the trade deadline in the Clay Holmes deal. Taylor then slashed .351/.390/.500 with one home run, eight doubles, and 10 RBI in 82 plate appearances with Chicago.
