Brewers World Series Win Means It’s Go Time For Jed Hoyer

Milwaukee’s dominant championship run cements a decade of National League Central superiority, leaving Chicago’s front office under immense pressure to finally bridge the widening gap this offseason.

The unthinkable happened on Thursday night.

The Milwaukee Brewers won the World Series over the Tampa Bay Rays in what was a dominant postseason run. The Brewers beat the Padres (3-1) in the National League Division Series, beat the Dodgers (4-0) in the National League Championship Series, and beat the Rays (4-1) in the World Series.

This Brewers World Series title further proves that Milwaukee has been the far superior franchise to the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs haven’t quite been on the Brewers' level over the last few years.

Milwaukee has won the National League Central in each of the last four years and five of the last six seasons. The only season the Brewers didn’t win the division was back in 2022 when they finished second. The Cubs, on the other hand, haven’t won the NL Central in a full season since 2017.

Since 2021, the Cubs have been trying to play catch-up with the Brewers. The Brewers have finished ahead of the North Siders in six consecutive seasons, and it hasn’t really been close in most of those years either.

Here are the records of the Brewers and Cubs since 2021.

Brewers:

2021: 95-67

2022: 86-76

2023: 92-70

2024: 93-69

2025: 97-65

2026: 103-59 (World Series win)

Cubs:

2021: 71-91

2022: 74-88

2023: 83-79

2024: 83-79

2025: 92-70

2026: 89-73

The Cubs have clearly not been on the Brewers' level in quite some time. The organization even tried to take away the leader of some of those Milwaukee teams by hiring Craig Counsell as the team’s new manager.

However, that didn’t work out.

The Brewers have been better than ever under Pat Murphy. Murphy has won two straight National League Manager of the Year awards and won over 103 games for the first time in franchise history this season. Murphy also led Milwaukee to its first-ever World Series title.

This Brewers’ World Series win means it’s go time for Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer this offseason. It’s time to do what it takes to overtake the now champions of Major League Baseball.

Milwaukee has clearly controlled the National League Central for close to a decade. However, the Cubs have the money and resources to eventually overtake the Brewers in this division once again.

This World Series win should light a fire under Hoyer to help get the Cubs back on top of the NL Central.
