Alek Thomas is no longer with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

On Friday, the team announced that Thomas, their starting center fielder, had been designated for assignment.

In his place, the Diamondbacks called up their top prospect in outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt.

Waldschmidt will have a chance to show the ballclub what he can do. MLB reporter Bob Nightengale had the news about Thomas and Waldschmidt earlier on Friday.
