Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez was excellent through five innings, but the Diamondbacks' bullpen failed late.

On Saturday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished off a three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium, beating the D-backs 3-2. Will Smith's two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning off D-backs reliever Juan Morillo put the Dodgers on top.

Dodgers reliever Edwin Diaz came on in the ninth inning, complete with trumpet-playing entrance music, to pick up his second save.

It's not the type of start that Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo wanted to see his team begin the 2026 MLB season. Arizona is now 0-3 and has some work to do to right the ship early,

In the top of the first inning, Pavin Smith singled to left field and brought in Corbin Carroll for a 1-0 lead.

Then, with the Diamondbacks up 2-1, Freddie Freeman broke out of his early-season hitless slump. Freeman doubled to left and scored Kyle Tucker, putting the Dodgers within 2-1.

And, well, that set up the late-game heroics for the Dodgers as they are now 3-0 on the young season.

Rodriguez went five innings for the D-backs, giving up four hits and allowing just one run (unearned).

Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow was on point for manager Dave Roberts' team. Glasnow went six innings, giving up four hits and two runs (both earned). Glasnow also walked one and struck out six.

Reliever Will Klein picked up the victory for the Dodgers.

In a funny moment, Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte shared a hug with Freeman during the game. It got a lot of attention on social media and around the MLB world, too.

The D-backs will have a rare Sunday off. But they will come home to Chase Field in Phoenix to start a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.
