Nothing has been approved yet but there is a ton of speculation of conversations happening for the Arizona Diamondbacks to acquire Sandy Alcantara. The National League Cy Young Award winner is a major target for the Arizona bullpen. They will try whatever possible to get him in their lineup.
There is a mock scenario building that could become a reality here soon. That is the Diamondbacks acquiring the starting pitcher from the Miami Marlins, Sandy Alcantara.
Arizona has been very obvious about making moves to rebuild the bullpen. A bullpen that was beat up with injuries and full of lack luster performances.
In order to acquire the Alcantara the Diamondbacks would be giving up prospects and other assets that would spread amongst six other teams.
Now most the time these mock trade scenarios rarely come true, this scenario could likely happen any day now, if it does at all. Multi-team blockbuster moves like this are rare for the Diamondback front office, a more realistic two to three team deal will be the most likely move.
Considering the Diamondbacks are looking for pitchers to rebuild a bullpen that was injury ridden, Sandy Alcantara the last three years has had multiple injuries.
Alcantara missed the entire 2024 season after having Tommy John surgery. These injuries go all the way back to 2022. The 2025 season was Sandy Alcantara's first full season since starting in the major league. Even though he made the return to the lineup, his numbers took a steep decline, and the once great win/loss record was more losses than wins.
Either way there are multiple reason why this deal will not become reality. The idea that the front office is being active though is a great sign for the Diamondbacks.
