Key starters face looming MRIs as the Arizona Diamondbacks momentum hits a sudden wall. With a thin rotation and no off days, the National League West contenders must now survive a brutal stretch.

Despite picking up a 9-5 series opening victory against the Minnesota Twins, there's a lot for Arizona Diamondbacks fans to be concerned about.

Injuries are starting to pile up at a rapid rate. Having to put righty Ryne Nelson on the Injured List was just the start of what was to come, something this team can't afford now that they're riding a hot streak and just took over second place in the National League West Division.

All eyes are on Michael Soroka who left the opener in the top of the second. It was later ruled he felt discomfort in his left glute and underwent an MRI on Saturday.

If that's not enough, outfielder Jordan Lawlar also underwent an MRI on Saturday after he was pulled in the bottom of the eighth. Lawlar may have secured a bunt single, but at what cost? Both players were placed on the Injured List later on Saturday.

Torey Lovullo Discusses the Injuries

"It's been brutal," he told MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. "I'm not going to lie. We're gonna try to get everybody healthy. We're going to try to get everybody back on their feet. It's going to be a little bit of a longer process for some."

Lovullo said, "It's been a tough 24 to 48 hours for this ballclub, but we know that we have to budget for very hard days."

Arizona seemingly needed to use its entire bullpen to get the game one victory over Minnesota. Of the eight pitchers the Twins faced, not a single one was on the mound to record more than five outs. Obviously, that wasn't the plan, but the Diamondbacks had to pivot when Soroka was pulled as a precautionary measure.

Soroka on What Went Wrong

"I'm not going to speculate as to exactly what it is, but I don't think it's anything too serious," he said after the game. "And hopefully it'll be minimum of time away."

Remember, Arizona still hasn't revealed it's starting pitcher for Sunday's series finale. Zac Gallen takes the bump today and this team desperately needs him to go deep into the game. Injuries are part of the game, but they're relatively impossible to navigate knowing the Diamondbacks have 12 straight games before their next day off.

Lawlar Isn't as Optimistic

Even though Lawlar said it was "just a little tightness", he held back on any further comments, "I'll wait for the imaging and then I'll let you know," he told the media.

As a pair of MRIs were done on Saturday, the Diamondbacks would love to bring some positive news to the clubhouse now that things were starting to finally click.
