Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen did not mince words when discussing the upcoming MLB Trade Deadline.
By sweeping the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Arizona Diamondbacks went into the All-Star break on as high of a note as they could have achieved.
Now at 49-47 and second in the National League West Division, the Diamondbacks are a team that has some momentum, and that could play a part in their decision making ahead of the Aug. 3 MLB Trade Deadline.
Recently, Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen joined Arizona Sports on 98.7 FM to discuss the organization's plans leading up to the deadline while also remaining realistic with where the team is at currently, especially in terms of its health.
"Look, you know what I want to do," Hazen said. "I've talked about this, but we also have to be realistic about where we are. Unfortunately, you know, you talked about the Dodgers series. We took on a number of new injuries.
"We have a lot of guys that are down right now," he added. "Now, I'm hopeful that we're going to start seeing some of those guys coming back. That's going to be a huge addition to this team."
Diamondbacks have busy Injured List
As it currently stands, Arizona has 10 players on its Injured List, and with the exceptions of outfielders Tommy Troy and Jordan Lawlar, it is made up of pitchers. As it currently stands, many of the Diamondbacks' players occupying the IL do not have a set return date, or they are expected back later in the season.
"Obviously, [Corbin] Burnes is on his way back," Hazen said. "You know, we'll see what happens with [Zac] Gallen. You know, Tommy Troy is going to be back. So, I'm hopeful that that group is all coming back to us at some point, you know, within the next month or so, plus, you know, differing timeframes on all of those guys."
Burnes ended up with an extended IL stint in after it was discovered that he suffered a Teres major strain while continuing rehab from Tommy John surgery he had in June 2025. Meanwhile, Gallen is the most recent addition to the IL with right elbow inflammation.
What does Gallen's lineup future look like?
Gallen's return to the lineup is to be determined, while Burnes is not expected back until September. Despite all the injuries, Hazen would like to be a buyer at the upcoming deadline.
"That's going to change our profile dramatically without us doing anything at the deadline," Hazen said about the returning players. "But I would love to be able to add to this team, given if they show us that they belong in the wildcard race, but we're going to see where they take us in the next couple of weeks.
"Like I said," he added. "We're going to be facing the competition we're standing next to in the wildcard standings, and we kind of control where this thing goes."
