Brandon Pfaadt stumbled and a stagnant lineup managed just two hits, pushing Arizona further back in the Wild Card race following a dismal night at Chase Field.

The Arizona Diamondbacks recorded just two hits against the Texas Rangers on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Arizona was coming off a 9-1 win in the series opener, but now they're stuck playing a rubber match to try and give their home fans a series win to celebrate.

There's nothing wrong with losing to the Rangers, who are a playoff-caliber team themselves, but the fact of the matter is the D-backs are running out of time this season.

This 6-2 loss highlighted just how many things are wrong with this team, and there's little to no room for error now that they're 1.5 games back in the National League Wild Card.

Gaining ground on the San Diego Padres is all that matters from here on out. While those teams play each other in the final series of the year, D-backs fans know it would sure be nice to have momentum on their side and be in that third and final spot once the series comes around.

When looking at the Rangers, they're still two games out of the final American League Wild Card spot, as well as being two games back of the Houston Astros in the AL West.

Brandon Pfaadt loses another start

Brandon Pfaadt looked incredible to start the year, and his 7-1 record proved that. After losing his third appearance on April 11, he went on to win seven straight starts.

All of a sudden, he's dropped two of his last three. Pfaadt has given this team quality innings, no doubt, but going deep into ballgames only means so much in a game like this one.

The Rangers recorded 10 hits against Pfaadt in his 6.2 innings of work. All six runs he allowed were earned, and while he struck out seven batters and didn't walk a single one, Arizona's offense simply didn't have it in them to come back after giving up six runs in the fifth inning.

Diamondbacks strike out 10 times

It wasn't a pretty night at the plate as Corbin Carroll and Ryan Waldschmidt combined for six strikeouts on the night.

Arizona was just 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position, and while Tim Tawa hit the first triple of his career, it's not like him coming around to score in the third inning was ever going to be enough.

Gabriel Moreno led the way with two hits, and it says a lot that he was the only D-backs player with multiple hits on the night.
