After logging more innings than any shortstop in baseball, the Arizona Diamondbacks defensive anchor was honored.

For the first time in his career, Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo is a Gold Glove Award winner.

Perdomo, 27, has been with the D-backs since the 2021 season.

He saw a huge uptick in games played from 2022-23, and that's when he really began to settle into his own.

The Dominican Republic native was named an All-Star in '23, and two years later he would win a Silver Slugger Award.

With major accomplishments in 2023 and 2025, Perdomo made sure he added another to the trophy case after a strong 2026 season.

While the D-backs season may not have ended how Perdomo and the rest of the team wanted, he was at least able to celebrate on Sunday, Nov. 1, when he learned he won his first career Gold Glove Award.

Diamondbacks shortstop deserved every bit of this

It seemed like Perdomo had the full-time shortstop job locked up after he played 140 games at the position in '22, but Arizona moved him around a bit during his lone All-Star season.

That said, he's played exclusively at shortstop since 2024, having logged a boatload of innings at the position.

This year, he played 1,372.0 innings at shortstop, which was the most of any player in baseball.

With only eight defensive errors, those two numbers alone were enough to prove why the league needed to be put on notice.

If that's not enough, Perdomo's eight defensive runs saved and 16 outs above average made him stand out from the pack.

Perdomo sported a career-high 1.6 DWAR. In his last two years, that number sat at 1.3 and 1.5, respectively.

Throughout his career, Perdomo has a .980% fielding percentage at shortstop in 5,755.7 innings played.

He contributed to 94 double plays this season, adding 362 assists on 618 total chances. By the end of the year, he had a strong .987% fielding percentage, which helped his career number rise.

Perdomo was one of four Diamondbacks players to be named a Gold Glove finalist. He was joined by catcher Gabriel Moreno, right fielder Corbin Carroll, and utility player Ildemaro Vargas.

Masyn Winn topped Perdomo in a few categories, but in the end, the league-leading shortstop by innings played had the 24-year-old beat.

Remember, Perdomo signed a four-year, $45 million deal with the team prior to the 2025 season, so even with a potential lockout looming, Perdomo is locked up through at least the 2029 season.
