Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr.'s difficult 2026 season continued Saturday when he landed on the 10-day Injured List.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will once again be without veteran outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr., announcing Saturday that he has been placed on the 10-day Injured List with a strained right adductor.
The injury is the latest setback in what has become a frustrating 2026 campaign for Gurriel, who has struggled to stay healthy throughout the season.
Arizona did not specify exactly when the injury occurred, though Gurriel played in Friday's 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, finishing 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly before later being sidelined.
Another injury interrupts Gurriel's season
This marks Gurriel's third stint on the Injured List in 2026.
The veteran began the season on the Injured List while completing his recovery from a torn ACL suffered late last year. After making his season debut on April 18, Gurriel appeared in just over a month of games before suffering a left hamstring strain that sidelined him from late May until the middle of June.
He returned prior to the All-Star break but will now miss additional time after sustaining the adductor injury.
The repeated setbacks have prevented Gurriel from finding consistency both at the plate and in the field during his eighth major-league season.
Production has been limited
In addition to the injuries, Gurriel has endured one of the toughest offensive stretches of his career.
Across 47 games this season, the 31-year-old is batting .207 with a .254 on-base percentage and a .387 slugging percentage. While he has continued to provide occasional power, he has been unable to establish the steady production that made him a key piece of Arizona's lineup in recent years.
His latest absence also comes at a difficult time for the Diamondbacks, who have dealt with multiple injuries across the roster throughout the first half of the season.
Looking ahead
The Diamondbacks will now hope Gurriel's stay on the Injured List is a short one as they begin the second half of the season.
When healthy, Gurriel has been an important veteran presence in Arizona's clubhouse and outfield. However, injuries have repeatedly interrupted his season, limiting both his availability and ability to regain his rhythm at the plate.
As the Diamondbacks continue their playoff push, getting Gurriel back to full strength will remain an important objective.
A healthy and productive Gurriel would provide Arizona with another experienced bat and additional depth in the outfield during the stretch run, but for now, the club will once again have to move forward without one of its veteran contributors.
