The Arizona Diamondbacks' trade deadline plans could be predicated on how the rest of July plays out.

The Arizona Diamondbacks ended the first half of the 2026 Major League Baseball season on an incredibly high note.

Ahead of the All-Star break, the Diamondbacks won four straight games, which included a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team with the best record up to this point.

The season for the Diamondbacks, at many points, has felt like a house of cards, but at 49-47 after an impressive winning streak, could it affect how Arizona views the upcoming trade deadline?

In a recent interview with "Bickley and Marotta Mornings on Arizona Sports" Diamondbacks play-by-play announcer Steve Berthiaume provided his thoughts.

"Well, I think it's definitely trending in the right direction, Tim," Berthiaume said to Marotta. "It depends on the next three weeks, right? I think it really does. Right now, you're two and a half games.

"It always comes down to this. How many games back are you in the wild card and how many teams are ahead of you in those standings?" Berthiaume said.

"So if you're five or six out with three or four teams ahead of you for that last spot, maybe you're sellers," he added. "If you're two and a half or three back with maybe two or three teams ahead of you, you're probably buyers."

In Berthiaume’s view, the choices made by the Diamondbacks at the deadline will be dictated by a road trip at the end of the month in which they visit the St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Guardians.

"So, you're kind of walking right on that razor's edge," he said, "So, that's where I go back to that road trip. Washington, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, throw St. Louis at the front of that trip. That's the trip that will decide where they go."

Arizona will conclude its road trip with the series finale against the Guardians on Aug. 2, the day before the trade deadline. According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen wants to be a buyer at the deadline.

After designating Pavin Smith for assignment on July 10, could Arizona look for reinforcements at first base? After Smith and Carlos Santana did not work out, it certainly is a position of need. If they end up selling, who could be the most viable player to move on from?

The Diamondbacks have a lot to figure out, and there is only so much time left for them to do so.
