Eduardo Rodriguez turned in one of the National League's cleanest pitching performances while Corbin Carroll added another All-Star appearance for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
While the National League came up short in a 4-0 loss to the American League at the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez made sure his first career appearance on baseball's biggest summer stage was a memorable one.
Selected to his first All-Star Game in his 11th major-league season, Rodriguez was called upon in the second inning and delivered a flawless outing. The veteran needed just eight pitches to retire the side, showcasing the efficiency that has helped him enjoy one of the strongest seasons of his career.
Rodriguez opened the inning by inducing a groundout before getting another routine ground ball for the second out. He then finished the frame with a harmless fly ball to left field, completing a perfect inning without allowing a baserunner.
His outing stood out as part of an exceptional night for American League and National League pitchers alike. The game's pitching staffs combined for a dominant performance, though the American League ultimately controlled the contest behind an early offensive surge.
Carroll adds another All-Star selection
Corbin Carroll continued to build an already impressive All-Star resume by making his third Midsummer Classic appearance in his first four full big league seasons.
The Diamondbacks outfielder entered the game in the fifth inning as a defensive replacement in left field, giving Arizona another representative on the field after Rodriguez's appearance on the mound.
Carroll received one plate appearance, batting in the sixth inning against Cleveland Guardians right-hander Cade Smith. Smith got the better of the matchup, recording a swinging strikeout before Carroll's night came to an end when he was replaced defensively in the eighth.
Although he was unable to collect a hit, Carroll's latest All-Star selection further reflects his emergence as one of the National League's premier outfielders. At just 25 years old, he has already become a familiar face at the league's annual showcase and remains one of the cornerstones of Arizona's roster.
American League takes control early
The American League seized momentum immediately, scoring three runs in the opening inning before adding another run late to secure a 4-0 victory.
Cody Bellinger drove in the first two runs of the game and was named All-Star Game MVP, while Miguel Vargas added insurance with a solo home run in the eighth inning.
Despite the final score, the Diamondbacks were well represented, with Rodriguez delivering one of the night's most efficient pitching performances and Carroll adding another All-Star appearance to his growing list of accomplishments.
