Jose Cabrera impressed in his major-league debut, giving the Arizona Diamondbacks a potential rotation option as injuries continue to mount up.

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue searching for answers in a rotation that has been hit hard by injuries, but they may have found a promising option in right-hander Jose Cabrera.

The 24-year-old made his major-league debut on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins after being promoted from Triple-A Reno earlier in the weekend. While Arizona ultimately fell 4-2, Cabrera delivered a strong first impression and provided a bright spot for a pitching staff dealing with mounting health concerns.

His opportunity came after a pair of injuries further thinned Arizona's rotation depth. Ryne Nelson was recently placed on the Injured List with a forearm injury, while Michael Soroka also landed on the shelf, forcing the Diamondbacks to look internally for reinforcements.

Strong First Impression

Cabrera handled the challenge of his first major-league start with poise.

The rookie limited Minnesota to three hits over five-plus innings and struck out three batters. He consistently attacked the strike zone, throwing 42 of his 62 pitches for strikes while keeping the Twins from generating much offense against him.

One of the standout moments came in the third inning when Cabrera escaped a potential threat by striking out Byron Buxton with two runners aboard and two outs.

Arizona removed Cabrera after he allowed a leadoff bunt single in the sixth inning. At the time of his departure, he had kept the Diamondbacks in position to win and showcased the command and composure that earned him his first call-up.

Though he did not factor into the decision, Cabrera's debut was an encouraging development for an organization searching for reliable innings.

Climbing Through The System

Signed out of the Dominican Republic, Cabrera is in his sixth professional season and only recently reached Triple-A.

The right-hander quietly put together a strong campaign across Double-A and Triple-A before earning his promotion. His ability to generate strikeouts while limiting walks helped separate him from other internal options and eventually led to his first opportunity in the majors.

While he entered the season outside many national prospect rankings, Arizona saw enough progress to trust him with an important start during a critical stretch of the season.

Rotation Depth Remains A Focus

The Diamondbacks are expected to continue evaluating their pitching options as they navigate multiple injuries.

Brandon Pfaadt remains a candidate to rejoin the major-league rotation, but Cabrera's performance may have strengthened his case for additional opportunities. If he continues to build on Sunday's debut, Arizona could have another viable starter capable of helping stabilize the staff in the weeks ahead.

For a team searching for answers on the mound, Cabrera's first outing provided reason for optimism.
