Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Ryan Waldschmidt had his best game so far on Monday against the San Francisco Giants.

The Arizona Diamondbacks followed up their series win against the Colorado Rockies with a dominant 12-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday, and a key contributor to their offensive success was rookie center fielder, Ryan Waldschmidt.

Waldschmidt had a perfect night in the batters box as he went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a walk. At 23 years old and in the infancy of his rookie year, it was his most effective game at the plate since making his MLB debut on May 8.

After the game, Waldschmidt talked about his team’s strong evening to open the series against the Giants.

"Came in today ready to go," Waldschmidt said. "You know, we came off of a serious win last week, and coming into today, we were just all fired up ready to play baseball and you know, it started with the first couple batters of the game, you know, I think you said we had four runs in the first six pitches. So, I mean, just came out hungry ready to go."

For Waldschmidt, proper preparation during pregame batting practice helped fuel his strong night.

"Yeah, you know, we did a couple things in the cage pregame," Waldschmidt said. "And just, really trying to see the ball deep today and just trying to put the barrel on it.

"You know, I feel like I've been taking some good swings prior to this," he added. "And today, just continue to try and do the same thing, and got some good pitches to hit and put a good swing on them."

The Diamondbacks wasted no time imposing their will on San Francisco, and ended up notching a four-run first inning after loading the bases, which set up Nolan Arenado’s grand slam.

Arizona’s monstrous first inning followed a trend of multiple innings in the series against Colorado in which the Diamondbacks were able to log several runs during one frame.

"Good start, kind of playing that downhill baseball that Torey (Diamondbacks manager Lovullo) always talks about," Waldschmidt said.

"Yeah, you know offense is contagious, and when you have the first four batters go up there and do what they did, the rest of us are going up there with the utmost confidence to do the same thing and, you know, we're all just feeding off of that," Waldschmidt continued.

"So, you know, as long as the offense is going and we're getting good pitches ahead and we're putting good swings on the ball, we're all gonna feed off of each other," he added. "And then it's a tough battle for the other team when that happens."
