First things first. Arizona Diamondbacks fans need to realize that just because the team is making calls, that doesn't mean they're going to be super aggressive.

In fact, D-backs president and CEO Derrick Hall said the team is in an interesting position as both a buyer and a seller.

The 2026 trade deadline is shaping up to be a massive one. There are star pitchers, closers, and bats on the market that seem to be few and far between.

In a recent call with Arizona Sports, Hall talked about where things are at for the Diamondbacks, a team that is making a Wild Card push with their 57-52 record.

"I can tell you there's a lot going on, we're talking to a lot of teams and a lot of possibilities," he said. "I would be surprised if something doesn't happen with the in position that we're in."

Hall recalled being in the elevator where D-backs players would come up to him and ask, "are we going to do something?"

"They always want to do something," he added. "I can just tell you, the volume of calls that we're making and that we're taking would indicate that there's some good activity out there."

Hall warned Diamondbacks fans that there aren't too many sellers currently. He acknowledges the organization is "very good" at being both buyers and sellers, and says that makes the most sense with where they're at.

There are always contracts that teams want to get out of paying, but this team doesn't have one glaring issue that is going to hold them back in the long run. Sure, there might not be a ton of sellers at this point in time, but that shouldn't hold the Diamondbacks back from making something happen.

Currently only five games above .500, there's still a lot of baseball to be played. This is a team that would love to add another starting pitcher, or they could use a bat that further pushes this lineup into the playoff hunt.

At the time of writing, Arizona has the same record as the Philadelphia Phillies. Only the Chicago Cubs are at a better spot than them in the Wild Card race, and it's worth noting both the D-backs and Phillies are one and a half games up on the San Diego Padres, who are currently on the outside looking in.

If Arizona were to make a move, that should give them enough cushion room to stay in the thick of things, as long as everyone stays healthy and no major slumps emerge.
