A late-inning power surge fueled by three home runs and a massive seven-run frame propelled the Arizona Diamondbacks past the Cleveland Guardians.
The Arizona Diamondbacks scored 10 runs in the final three innings to defeat the Cleveland Guardians, 12-8.
It marks the third time in the second half of the season this team has scored 10-plus runs, an extremely impressive amount knowing they only have 10 wins since coming back from the All-Star break.
That said, they've now won four straight games and secured a second straight series victory. After dropping their first of three full series, all of which happen to be on the road, Arizona has managed to peak at the right time with the trade deadline roughly 48 hours away.
Three Diamondbacks hit home runs
A trio of D-backs hit homers in this game, and all three took place late in the game. Geraldo Perdomo hit his seventh home run of the year to get things started in the seventh inning.
Corbin Carroll would later follow Perdomo's up with a three-run, two-out homer against a different pitcher while still in the seventh. While he's still three shy of Ketel Marte's team-leading 19 home runs, Carroll has been a massive contributor on his fifth year with the team.
One inning later, Nolan Arenado hit a two-out homer for himself. It was just a solo shot, but that was his 15th of the season, so the second place race is heating up behind Marte.
Diamondbacks: 20 ABs with runners in scoring position
As a team, Arizona was 7-for-20 with a runner in scoring position. By the end of the night, they left 10 runners on base, one more than the Guardians did, a team who went 4-for-12 with RISP.
Not only did this game feature 20 combined runs, but both teams combined for 30 hits. Arizona had 16 of those in a wild one that featured a seven-run seventh inning.
Kohl Drake immediately gave up two runs in the fist inning, but the D-backs answered with a pair of their own in the fifth.
With the game tied, 2-2, heading into the seventh, that's when this game could completely change. Arizona had 10 batters come to the plate in the seventh in a wild inning that featured a single, double, walk, two homers, and two hit by pitches.
Suddenly, the score was 9-2 in Arizona's favor. They'd follow it up with Arenado's homer in the eighth, and then kept the hit parade going in the ninth with a pair of singles to go along with a double and a walk.
