Ketel Marte’s clutch eighth-inning blast erased a late deficit, fueling a resilient extra-innings victory for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Houston Astros.

Ketel Marte may have disappeared and caused some drama within the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, but there's no doubt this team's lineup is better when he's in it.

The 32-year-old hit his first home run since Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the eighth inning, which got the D-backs back into the game against the Houston Astros.

Houston had jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning, and then when Arizona scored in the top of the fifth, the Astros immediately answered to take a 3-1 lead.

The D-backs chipped away at that lead with another run in the seventh, and then Marte's 388-foot homer tied things up in the top of the eighth.

Once extra innings came around, the D-backs executed their game plan to perfection and were able to score a run in just four pitches. In the end, they handed the Astros their 70th loss of the season, 4-3.

Diamondbacks improve to 75-68

In a game that saw the Astros finish with one more hit than the Diamondbacks, Arizona sure made theirs count.

Lars Nootbaar and Gabriel Moreno both had two hits on a night where the Diamondbacks had as many hits (eight) as times they struck out.

This Astros pitching staff didn't come to mess around, but in the end it was Bryan King falling to 2-4 on the year.

Marte's bomb came against AJ Blubaugh, which resulted in his first blown save of the year. Overall, it was Marte's 22nd home run, and it turned out to be the only homer in this entire game.

Nootbaar, Geraldo Perdomo, Moreno, and Marte all had an RBI each, which proves just how dominant the top of this D-backs lineup can be.

Brandon Pfaadt stole the show

The Diamondbacks have had their fair struggles with the starting rotation this season, but Brandon Pfaadt has been there for this team time and time again.

While he wasn't able to record a decision, he allowed just three earned runs in 6.1 innings of work. The D-backs bullpen held down the rest of the game by throwing 3.2 scoreless innings where they only allowed two hits and struck out six batters the rest of the way.

As a team, the D-backs struck out 10 batters and only allowed a pair of walks, so there was plenty to love about their performance against one of the hottest teams in the American League.

Coming out of this one, the Astros left eight runners stranded and were just 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
