The Arizona Diamondbacks' early power surge faded as a late bullpen collapse and stagnant offense allowed the Colorado Rockies to snatch a one-run victory.

The Arizona Diamondbacks jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Colorado Rockies in the first inning, but would allow two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh inning, leading to a 3-2 defeat.

Diamondbacks starting pitcher Mitch Bratt was on his "A" game on Tuesday night at Chase Field. The most impressive part was that he recorded 18 outs in only 78 pitches. He was pulled through six, but that could be a decision this team ends up regretting, as the man who replaced him, Kevin Ginkel, took the loss and fell to 5-4 for the year.

Ginkel allowed a leadoff triple in the top of the seventh. Two batters later, that runner would score in the game's deciding run.

Diamondbacks' offense peaked in the first inning

Other than a pair of solo homers from Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte, two players this team desperately needs to stay hot, Arizona's offense didn't do much of anything down the stretch.

Marte's home run came with two outs in the bottom of the first, but the D-backs couldn't capitalize on Nolan Arenado's triple, which came just five pitches later.

In total, 25% of the Diamondbacks' hits came in the first inning. Simply put, that's not acceptable, especially when Bratt, a 23-year-old rookie, is giving them six solid innings.

After the second inning, Arizona didn't have a single runner in scoring position. For a team that is looking to solidify itself as a Wild Card contender, that's not the type of performance they want to be putting on against a Rockies team that improved to a measly 47-73.

Series finale leads to an off-day

Should the Diamondbacks somehow drop the series finale and end up losing two out of three to this Rockies team, they at least know they'll be able to enjoy Thursday, Aug. 13, off.

The D-backs will have to make the most of that day off as they'll be facing a pair of strong opponents in the Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox to follow, and all six of those games are on the road.

As it stands, Arizona currently has the same record as the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres. There are three teams fighting for the final two Wild Card spots, and while the D-backs currently hold the tiebreaker over San Diego, there's still a ton of baseball left to be played.

Remember, the Diamondbacks will end the 2026 season in San Diego, so those three games against the Padres from September 25-27 could decide everything.
