The Arizona Diamondbacks road-heavy offensive explosion continues to fuel a tight Wild Card race.
For the fourth time in the month of August, the Arizona Diamondbacks have scored 10+ runs in a game.
Their month began with a 12-run performance on Aug. 1, and they would then put up 10 runs just four days later.
Fast forward to Aug. 15, when they scored 10 runs once more, similar to what they did against the San Francisco Giants on Friday, Aug. 28, in a 10-6 victory.
Interestingly, three of those four double-digit run games have come on the road. Keep in mind, Arizona has also scored nine runs in two games this month, so it's safe to say their offense has been firing on all cylinders.
Diamondbacks' season run differential is still only +4
Despite all of the runs they've scored this month, and the fact that both of their nine-run games were 9-0 victories, the Diamondbacks still have the smallest run differential of the teams in the National League Wild Card race.
Giving up six runs against the Giants is never ideal, but it's crazy to think they allowed those six runs on just five hits while it took them 12 hits to score 10 runs themselves.
After getting a nice rebound win at Oracle Park, the D-backs find themselves half a game back of the final NL Wild Card spot.
Now 72-64, Arizona has to keep winning the games they should, on paper, have no issue winning, and that includes taking this four-game series against the Giants.
Three-home-run nights for the D-backs
Five different Diamondbacks batters recorded RBIs in their 72nd win of the year, but Corbin Carroll and Tim Tawa both had a 3-RBI night.
To no surprise, each of those players had a home run, and it just so happens that both of them came in a five-run third inning for the Diamondbacks.
This game featured plenty of offense early as the score was 6-5 in Arizona's favor through the first four innings.
Four late insurance runs helped guide the D-backs to victory, even after they had already hit a trio of homers through four innings. Lars Nootbaar led off this lineup and hit a solo shot to get things started in the first inning.
Even without Ketel Marte, the D-backs continue to win games, and their offense is in midseason form, which is exactly what they need at this point in the season.
Arizona and San Francisco will finish their series in a doubleheader on Saturday, Aug. 29.
