Corbin Carroll’s historic triple and a resilient bullpen fueled a gritty victory over Minnesota, propelling the surging Arizona Diamondbacks into second place despite an early injury to the rotation.

The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to stay hot as they've now won four of their last five games.

As part of a six-game homestand, Arizona is 3-1 with two games remaining against the Minnesota Twins.

This Twins series couldn't have started any better for the Diamondbacks as they picked up a 9-5 victory on Friday night to improve to 39-36 on the year.

Arizona now sits at second in the National League West Division, though they're still 9.5 games back of the defending back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

Two Crooked Innings

Despite trailing 3-1 at the end of the fourth inning, Arizona did everything in their power to come alive late. The Diamondbacks had a four-run fifth and later added three in the eighth thanks to a base-clearing, history-making triple from Corbin Carroll.

Carroll went 3-for-4 on the night with a walk, but most impressively had four RBIs. After his eighth-inning triple, he tied Stephen Drew's franchise record at 32.

Things weren't looking great when Michael Soroka was pulled in the top of the second inning. Arizona allowed a run in the second, third, and fourth, but in the end this pitching staff came together.

Eight Pitchers Used

An early injury to Soroka made things extremely interesting. Not a single Diamondbacks pitcher threw more than 1.2 innings. In fact, six of the eight who made an appearance only recorded three outs.

Only four of the Twins' five runs were earned, and it was Jonathan Loaisiga who came out with the win. That marks the second of his 2026 season as the 31-year-old improved to 2-2.

Soroka ended up throwing just nine pitches, the fewest of any Diamondbacks pitcher. The bullpen got emptied out in the series opener, so it'll be interesting to see how Minnesota responds in the next two games knowing they've already seen a majority of Arizona's pitching staff.

Still No Starting Pitcher Announced for Sunday

Arizona's bullpen is starting to get more and more taxed, so this team really needs a big game out of Zac Gallen on Saturday night. It'll be Gallen putting his 3-5 record and 5.35 ERA to the test against Taj Bradley, someone who's been tremendous for Minnesota this season.

Another short start for the Diamondbacks would be a disaster knowing they aren't off until Thursday, July 2. Arizona still has 12 consecutive games before its next off day, so it's crucial that this team's starting rotation goes deep into games, especially with how many injuries have started to pile up.
