Friday night's series opener between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers didn't go the home team's way,

Boston jumped out to a 3-1 lead after four innings and added on as the Red Sox dropped the Dodgers 9-4 at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium.

A five-run seventh inning sealed the deal for the Red Sox.

Cole Irvin, who was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on Saturday, took the loss on Friday night. He worked six innings to help support the Dodgers' bullpen, but gave up six hits, six earned runs, walked three, struck out five, and allowed one home run.

Freddie Freeman went 3-for-4 at the plate, while teammate Shohei Ohtani was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
