The Milwaukee Brewers, with some incredible relief pitching from Andy Ashby, complete a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers and will move on to the World Series.
How the mighty have fallen.
The Los Angeles Dodgers' quest to become the first National League team to three-peat as World Series champions falls short. The Milwaukee Brewers complete a four-game sweep of the back-to-back defending champs with a 6-4 win in the National League Championship Series.
Milwaukee is heading back to the Fall Classic — this time representing the NL — for the first time since 1982.
Dodgers simply outmatched
From the start of Game 1 of the NLCS at American Family Field, the Dodgers were simply outmatched. In every facet, the Brewers responded to adversity, while Los Angeles couldn't hit water if it fell from a boat with runners in scoring position.
A vendetta that had pretty much overshadowed any positive production over the season's last two months.
The most notable struggle came from the bat of Shohei Ohtani. With conversations about having the four-time MVP sit out for Game 3, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts decided to pull out all the stops and have Ohtani reclaim his spot in the leadoff spot in a do-or-die scenario.
Roberts flipped the script in the lineup after noting that Ohtani's swing results from Game 3 persuaded him enough to put him at the top spot against Brewers opener Shane Drohan.
That familiarity paid off for both sides.
Ohtani homers
Ohtani launched his first home run since Aug. 18 off former teammate Dustin May in the bottom of the second — a three-run shot to right-center field concourse — that gave the Dodgers a quick 4-0 lead.
Finally, a breath of fresh air. The exclamation on Ohtani's face painted the relief that every Angelino felt throughout this series.

The Dodgers held their lead for three innings, all thanks to three perfect innings from Tyler Glasnow to kick off his outing. Momentum would begin to shift in Milwaukee's favor as a Brice Turang walk created a domino effect of back-to-back, ground-rule doubles from William Contreras and Jake Bauers.
Milwaukee tagged Glasnow for two runs and scored two more in their next half-inning, all in part due to a bullpen implosion. The Brewers took advantage of Evan Phillips and Alex Vesia's lack of command, waiting patiently for a time to strike.
They didn't have to as the pair of Dodgers arms walked in the tying run. Garrett Mitchell greeted newcomer Tanner Scott with a go-ahead solo shot to give the Brewers their first lead of the series.
Between the sixth and eighth innings, the Dodgers had seven plate appearances with the tying run in scoring position. They managed to go 0-for-6 and saw a total of 19 pitches in that frame.
The Dodgers season has officially ended, and an intriguing offseason is set to commence.
