The Los Angeles Dodgers have dropped their fourth straight game against the Chicago Cubs.
Justin Wrobleski was coming off his last outing in which he gave up the most home runs in a single start in his MLB career. He picked up right where he left off on Monday in the series opener against the Chicago Cubs.
Through 4.1 innings pitched, the Cubs rocked Wrobleski for four home runs — pushing his total to eight in his last two starts — and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits in the 10-5 series-opening loss.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Wrobleski both inferred that the southpaw might have been tipping pitches. But Wrobleski added that the execution of his pitches on Monday was worse than in his last start.
Los Angeles put Wrobleski in a good spot on offense before he even took a step on the mound. Following back-to-back singles to open up the game, Tommy Edman — who was hitting in the three-hole — launched a three-run shot to give the Dodgers an early three-spot in the first.
From then on, the homers came piling a dozen.
Seiya Suziki hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the first, Kevin Alcántara hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the second, and Carson Kelly mashed the third two-run shot of the game for Chicago in the third.
"Tonight, it just seemed like they were on everything," Roberts said on the Cubs jumping on Wrobleski via SportsNetLA. "Some balls that were executed decently, they still took good swings."
The last home run came in the bottom of the fifth when Michael Busch launched a solo shot to extend the Cubs' lead to 7-4.
Los Angeles put themselves in a position to capitalize on the Cubs' lead within striking distance, but the Dodgers could not muster any sort of offense with their limited runners on base.
Chicago capped off their scoring in the sixth with a three-spot as Busch almost cleared the bases full of Cubs. They scored at least one run in all but three innings.
"I think sometimes teams are going to have honestly good swings off you, and today that happened," Wrobleski said on his outing against the Cubs via SportsNetLA. "I think there's no excuse. I think I need to be better than I have these past two, and it's just frustrating."
With the loss, the Dodgers have now dropped their fourth straight game and have dropped to a record of 69-44.
All eyes will be on Tuesday, as newcomer Tarik Skubal makes his Dodgers debut on the mound.
