The offense comes alive as the Dodgers take one back from the Diamondbacks

Despite a spotty performance from the pitching staff, the Los Angeles Dodgers put up enough numbers on offense to come away with the slim 6-5 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

From the jump, the Dodgers took control on the offensive, as the red-hot Freddie Freeman capitalized on Shohei Ohtani's leadoff double by cranking a 394-foot home run to deep center.

Ohtani added some RBI to his stat sheet with a bases-clearing triple that allowed Dalton Rushing and Alex Freeland to score.

Freeman commended Ohtani's recent hot streak at the plate, noting that it's a big reason as to why the Dodgers have been coming away with W's.

“That’s why we’ve been winning a lot," Freeman said. "When you have the greatest player of all time playing this game on your team, and he’s hot like he is right now, it’s fun to watch.

With the Diamondbacks chipping away against Los Angeles starter Eric Lauer, the Dodgers answered back in the seventh inning.

With runners on the corners, Andy Pages hit a deep fly ball to the right field warning track, but it would result in a sacrifice fly. That would mark RBI number 51 for the 25-year-old outfielder.

Mookie Betts tacked on the second run of the seventh with an RBI single that Ohtani scored on.

The Diamondbacks would begin to fight back during their home half of the seventh, taking advantage of an ugly half-inning by the Dodgers' bullpen.

Kyle Hurt, who came in the seventh with an ERA of a flat one, could not command the baseball. Hurt gave up three walks — tying the amount of walks he'd given up all season — before Nolan Arenado ripped an RBI double.

"I thought he was just being a little too fine with the fastball," Roberts said on Hurt's performance.

Roberts also gave his flowers to the familiar opposition in Arenado.

"He's back to being that threat. His body looks more lively. He's getting to the fastball," Roberts said.

"I love watching him play."

Roberts had seen enough and called in Will Klein in hopes of stopping the bleeding. Klein was spotty in terms of his command as well, giving up the fourth walk of the inning with the bases loaded, which allowed Arenado to score, making it a one-run game.

Tanner Scott came on in the ninth and secured the close-margin win for his sixth save of the season.

What's Next?

With the win, the Dodgers improve to a 39-22 record.

Ohtani takes the mound on Wednesday and will act as a two-way player for just the fourth time this season.
