On the cusp of history, the Los Angeles Dodgers sweep the Colorado Rockies while wondering about Teoscar Hernández's health.
History fell short for the Los Angeles Dodgers en route to a series sweep against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night with a 4-1 final score.
Ohtani Battled Lack of Command, Tosses Six No-Hit Innings
For the third time in his illustrious career, Shohei Ohtani recorded six no-hit innings in a start.
He capped off his six scoreless innings sitting at 99 pitches, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts decided to pull the plug on his two-way star.
From the jump, the walks were one area that poked the side throughout Ohtani's outing.
Throughout bursts of his outing, Ohtani was seen visibly frustrated with himself with the near misses on pitches he threw and extended at-bats against Rockies hitters.
Ohtani gave up four free passes to Colorado hitters.
"I was just battling the lack of command I had throughout the night," Ohtani said.
Still, he did not let that deter him. He used his frustration to pick up seven punchouts and finish off his night with a 0.82 ERA.
"The positive is that they [Rockies] did not have any hard hits. That's the positive."
He left the game and the pressure of maintaining the no-hit bid to Will Klein in the seventh.
He recorded a scoreless frame and remains one of the top relievers coming out from the Dodgers' bullpen thus far in 2026.
Duties were then handed over to Tanner Scott, who recorded the first two outs in the eighth inning, before giving up the first Rockies' hit to Tyler Freeman on a 1-2 heater.
Kyle Hurt was handed the responsibility to finish off the sweep in the ninth inning and was in line to earn the first save of his career.
Hurt recorded a scoreless ninth on 15 pitches.
"It's awesome. I'm having so much fun being here, just around these guys," Hurt said following the win.
"Knowing that he [Roberts] trusts me in that situation means a lot to me, for sure."
Dodgers Continue Home Run Parade in Sweep
Just like in Tuesday night's rout, the home run ball was present during Wednesday's win.
Of course, Ohtani kicked off things with a leadoff home run to straightaway center field with an exit velocity of 111.3 mph off the bat.
Providing himself with run support was only backed up soon after by a home run from Freddie Freeman. It was Freeman's seventh home run of the season.
Alex Call etched his name on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. That allowed Hyeseong Kim to score from third, but Will Smith was tagged out at home while trying to extend the lead further.
The red-hot Andy Pages, who played his second consecutive game in his newfound No. 2 hole spot in the lineup, continued his hot hitting.
He took Antonio Senzatela deep in the eighth inning for his Dodgers-leading 13th home run of the year. With that home run, he also drove in his 50th RBI of the season, making him the first player in MLB to do so.
With the offense consistently firing on all cylinders, the injury bug hit the Dodgers in the middle of the game.
A few hours after transferring Kiké Hernández to the Injury List with a left oblique strain, Teoscar Hernández left in the bottom of the second inning with a left hamstring strain, the team announced.
Hernández had positive initial testing, but he will require an IL stint.
“Don’t know how severe it is. He tested well, but we’re going to get a scan tomorrow," Roberts said.
Roberts provided no timeline for Hernández.
What's Next?
With the win, the Dodgers improve to 36-20 and have won five straight.
Los Angeles has an off-day on Thursday before welcoming in the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game weekend set.
Justin Wrobleski will kick things off in the series opener on Friday.
