The Los Angeles Dodgers will begin a three-game series against the Athletics on Monday. Here is what you should know.
After coming off a series win against the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers will now visit the Athletics for a three-game set beginning on Monday. Below is what you need to know for the series ahead:
Location and Start Times
Location: Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, Calif.
First Game: Monday at 6:40 p.m. PST, 9:40 p.m. EST.
Second Game: Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. PST, 9:40 p.m. EST.
Third Game: Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. PST, 9:40 p.m. EST.
Probable Starters
Monday: Dodgers Left-Hander Eric Lauer vs Athletics Left-Hander Gage Jump
Monday night will be a battle of the southpaws as the Dodgers will likely give the starting nod to Lauer, while the Athletics will look to Gage Jump to take the mound.
After an ugly 1-5 start to the season with the Toronto Blue Jays, Lauer was traded to Los Angeles on May 17 for cash. Since donning the Dodger Blue, however, Lauer is 2-0 in five games (four starts).
In those appearances, Lauer has a 2.54 ERA in 28.1 innings of work, which is a drastic improvement from the 6.69 ERA he registered with the Blue Jays in eight games (six starts). Additionally, he has a 0.92 WHIP.
In his most recent start, Lauer picked up the win against the Minnesota Twins after throwing six no-hit innings.
On the other side, Jump is set to make his seventh start since making his MLB debut on May 26. In those games, the 23-year-old has been impressive.
Jump has logged a 3-1 record in his outings to go along with a 2.04 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched. In that span, he has 35 strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP.
In his most recent outing, Jump notched a career-high nine strikeouts in five innings against the San Francisco Giants.
Tuesday: Dodgers lefty Justin Wrobleski vs Athletics lefty Jeffrey Springs
In another battle of the left-handed pitchers, the Dodgers are expected to send Wrobleski out to face Springs on Tuesday.
Wrobleski, 25, has produced a very strong campaign in his third MLB season. Over 14 games (13 starts), he has a 9-2 record with a 2.71 ERA over 86.1 innings of work. Wrobleski’s most recent outing was not his best in terms of statistics, but he still came away with the win and delivered seven innings against the Twins.
On the other side, Springs will make his 18th start of the season, and it has not been going as well for him.
Up to Monday’s game, Springs has a 3-7 record and a 5.52 ERA over 88 innings. In his last outing, Springs went 5.1 innings against the Giants and struck out six batters while allowing three hits, three earned runs and two walks.
Wednesday: Dodgers right-hander Shohei Ohtani vs Athletics right-hander J.T. Ginn.
The series between the two teams will conclude with right-handers on the mound, and Ohtani will look to continue his dominant season.
In 13 starts this year, Ohtani has compiled an 8-2 record with a 1.58 ERA over 79.2 innings. In his most recent start, Ohtani delivered eight strikeouts while allowing five hits, two earned runs and two walks in a win over the Twins.
For the Athletics, Ginn will make his 16th start of the season and his 19th appearance. In that stretch, he has a 6-4 record with a 3.15 ERA over 88.2 innings. In his most recent start, Ginn earned the winning decision over the Los Angeles Angels after striking out five batters in six innings.
