The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a move for potential outfiled depth.

In the middle of a lengthy slump on all facets of the field, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to negate that by actively bolstering their depth.

In their attempt to do so, they have completed a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, acquiring outfielder Alek Thomas in exchange for Jose Requena.

Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors was on the move first

Thomas, 26, was recently designated for assignment by Arizona on May 8. That move was in preperation to make way for top prospect, 23-year-old Ryan Waldschmidt.

In 100 plate appearances in 2026 before his designation, Thomas produced a slash line of .181/.222/.340. Though his production at the plate stifled him for most of his tenure with Arizona, he was a main staple in the Diamondbacks outfielder squad, patrolling center.

Requena, 17, was signed by Los Angeles on January 15, 2026, for a $372,500 bonus, per Francys Romero

In order to make room for Thomas on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated centerfielder Michael Siani for assignment.

The Dodgers claimed Siani off of waivers from the New York Yankees on February 3. He was later activated by their Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City Comets, on March 16.

Siani has a career slashline of .221/.277/.547 in 344 at-bats.

This is an interesting development when it comes to the Dodgers.

For one, as reported by Jack Harris of The California Post, Thomas will not be on the Dodgers active roster as it stands and will most likely exercise his last minor league option.

An acquisition like this adds more fuel to the fire in terms of the Dodgers outfielder depth. There would not be much playing time for Thomas at the moment, as there is a long-awaited line with Kyle Tucker, Andy Pages, and Teoscar Hernandez as the outfielder main frame.

Even with the Dodgers outfield set in stone, there is still a chance that Thomas could play a part on the bench as a left-handed bat.

He could most likely play the role as a left-hitting version of Alex Call, who has started in all three outfielder positions more than once this season and has been productive off the bench when the Dodgers needed him.

Still, the Dodgers will need to brew him before they pour him out to join the Dodgers.
