Utility infielder Tyler Fitzgerald joins Los Angeles Dodgers in a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The Los Angeles Dodgers made a roster move on Tuesday, acquiring infielder Tyler Fitzgerald from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. The deal comes just days after Fitzgerald was designated for assignment, giving him yet another change of scenery early in the 2026 season.
To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-hander Landon Knack to the 60-day Injured List. Knack has been sidelined all year with an intercostal strain, and the move confirms he won’t be available in the immediate future.
Fitzgerald, 26, will report to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he’ll serve as organizational depth while retaining one minor-league option. Though he has big-league experience, he has yet to appear in a Major League game this season.
The transaction marks Fitzgerald’s second move in April alone. He began the year in the San Francisco Giants organization, but was designated for assignment and subsequently traded to Toronto.
His stint with the Blue Jays proved brief and uneventful. Fitzgerald did not see game action during his time on the active roster. After being optioned to Triple-A, he was designated for assignment once again, paving the way for this latest deal.
Originally selected in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Fitzgerald showed promise during his rookie campaign in 2024. He delivered a strong offensive performance, combining power and speed while hitting .280 with 15 home runs and 17 stolen bases over 96 games.
However, concerns about his swing-and-miss tendencies lingered, and those issues became more pronounced the following season. His production dipped significantly in 2025, and early returns in Triple-A this year suggest he is still working to regain consistency at the plate.
For the Dodgers, the move is more about depth than immediate impact. The current roster already features several infield options, limiting Fitzgerald’s short-term path to the majors. Still, with multiple players on the injured list, adding a versatile defender with prior big league experience provides valuable insurance.
While Fitzgerald looks to reset and find rhythm in Oklahoma City, the Dodgers can afford patience. If he rediscovers the form he flashed earlier in his career, then this minor acquisition could quietly pay dividends later in the season.
