Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Jerry Hairston Jr. predicts a complex blockbuster involving more than just the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers.
As the Tarik Skubal sweepstakes continue, former MLB player and Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Jerry Hairston Jr. added his two cents.
The 2009 World Series Champion recently appeared on Dodgers Nation to discuss what he believes will go down, and it's something that no other analyst has predicted.
Hairston knows that the Milwaukee Brewers are interested, as are one of, if not the, American League's top team, the Tampa Bay Rays.
Knowing all of that, Hairston made a bold claim that he believes the Detroit Tigers are going to put together a multi-team trade for their ace.
Hairston predicts a multi-team trade for Skubal
"I think the Tampa Bay Rays are going to be extremely aggressive," he noted. "I'm hearing the Brewers are going to be active, and hopefully the [Chicago] White Sox can be active as well."
From all of the reports going around, it's interesting to see Hairston lump the Chicago White Sox into the mix. Not many teams have predicted Skubal could land there, especially knowing that would keep Skubal in the American League Central for the rest of the season, at bare minimum.
Hairston continued, "Obviously the Dodgers are going to be in on it... I think if the Dodgers do pull off this trade, I think it's going to be a multi-team trade. I think it won't be just one for one as far as Tigers, Dodgers, if they do get it done."
There are no indications that Hairston has an additional inside source that has come to light with this information, but it would certainly make things more interesting with the trade deadline being just a few days away.
What would a multi-team trade look like?
Expect prospects galore, should a multi-team trade go down. The Tigers are going to squeeze every inch they can out of Skubal, and that's the correct move to make. As much as it sucks for Detroit to move on from him, they know they're not in a spot to compete, and they won't win a bidding war in the offseason.
As for where the Rays, Brewers, or White Sox fit in, that's where things get interesting. The Dodgers have a well-documented farm system, though it's arguably not as good as either the Rays or Brewers. Should LA need an extra hand, so to speak, that's where either one of those teams could come into play.
The thought of a multi-team trade is extremely interesting, and it creates a true guessing game as no one seems to really know what's going down behind the scenes. Skubal has been linked to the Dodgers, no doubt, but absolutely nothing is for certain.
